The River Thief
Diz, portrayed by Joel Courtney, is a daring and aimless teenager constantly on the move. Having been left to fend for himself since childhood due to his parents’ abandonment, he relies solely on his own wits and refuses any charity. He takes what he desires and swiftly departs. Cynical and resolute in his independence, Diz’s existence is defined by theft and neglect. His life takes a turn when he drifts into a quaint town along the Snake River. There, he encounters Marty, an unshakeable elderly man, and becomes infatuated with Marty’s wary granddaughter, Selah. After stealing from a local, unhinged drug dealer, Diz finds himself in possession of a large sum of money and pursued by two ruthless assassins. With more cash than he can handle and dangerous criminals on his trail, Diz inadvertently endangers those he has grown to care for, all while trying to win over Selah. However, he soon learns that some things cannot be taken or purchased. “The River Thief” explores themes of remorse, selflessness, and embracing life as a precious gift.
