On April 18th, 2017, Larry Bassett made history as the leading tax protester in the United States by refusing to pay federal income taxes on more than $1 million. In his act of defiance, he penned letters to various U.S. government bodies and officials, declaring that his moral beliefs prevent him from funding the nation’s military efforts. Aware that his illegal actions would provoke a response from the authorities, he willingly embraces the repercussions. In fact, he is inviting their retaliation, even as his family and neighbors express concern for his well-being.
