Jack Taylor
“Jack Taylor” is an Irish TV drama adapted from Ken Bruen’s novels. The show is set in Galway and features Iain Glen as the titular character, Jack Taylor, a former Garda Síochána officer who transitions into a “finder” after leaving the force. Taylor is adept at uncovering clues overlooked by others and is intimately familiar with the streets of his hometown.
The series premiered on Ireland’s TV3 on August 2, 2010, and later aired in Belgium on Canvas with Dutch subtitles. It made its UK debut on Channel 5 on February 21, 2013, and is also available on DVD. Critics have given it mixed reviews. Bernice Harrison from The Irish Times criticized Glen’s voiceovers, suggesting they made the character resemble a film noir detective. Conversely, David Stephenson from the Daily Express praised the gripping opening of the first episode. A real-life private investigator interviewed by Laura Barnett for The Guardian found the series entertaining but noted it didn’t always accurately depict his profession.
