“Rootwood” centers on two college students who run a podcast called “The Spooky Hour,” which delves into supernatural events and urban myths. When a Hollywood producer offers them the opportunity to film a horror documentary about the legend of The Wooden Devil, they see it as their big break. Along with a friend, they venture into Rootwood Forest to uncover the reality behind The Wooden Devil and his victims.
