Muxes

In the indigenous communities near Juchitán, gender is not strictly defined as male or female. The Zapotec people recognize a third gender category known as “muxes.” These are individuals who are biologically male but identify and live as women, existing in a culturally accepted space that transcends traditional gender boundaries.
