Little White Lie

The narrative follows Lacey Schwartz, who was raised in a conventional upper-middle-class Jewish family in Woodstock, NY. She grew up with affectionate parents and a strong connection to her Jewish roots, even as people around her questioned how a white girl could have such dark skin. Lacey accepted her family’s explanation that her appearance was due to her dark-skinned Sicilian grandfather. However, when her parents suddenly separated, she began to suspect otherwise. At 18, she confronted her mother and discovered the truth: her biological father was not the man who had raised her, but a black man named Rodney, with whom her mother had an affair.
